A man has been charged after an off-duty police officer found the body of a man in his 20s beside a Queensland road on Christmas Day.

A man has been arrested and charged after an alleged hit-and-run crash left a man dead on Christmas morning.
A man in his 20s was found dead on the side of the road at 5:20am this morning in Martyville, according to a Queensland Police spokesman.
“Following investigations by officers from the Forensic Crash Unit and Innisfail Criminal Investigation Branch, a 27-year-old man was taken into police custody.
“He has been charged with driving without due care causing death, and failing to remain at the incident and render assistance,” the spokesman said.
It is understood the man’s body was discovered deceased by an off-duty police officer.
Police were understood to be making inquiries at a nearby address as they continue their investigations.
The 27 year old is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Boxing Day.
