PINT Football Club has turned to one of its own by appointing dual premiership ruckman Rick Nolan as its Women’s Premier League coach.

Nolan pulled on the Greenants jumper on in the late noughties and entered club folklore by playing a crucial role in two grand final wins over Banks.

A three-time premiership coach at Men’s Premier League side St Mary’s where he played most of his carer, Nolan’s coaching role with the women’s side will take them into the technological age.

Video will play a large part in matchday analysis and coaching developing, roles that will stretch to the Men’s Division 1 and 2 sides.

His assistant coaching roles with Territory Thunder’s NEAFL men’s and women’s VFL sides gave him a brief glimpse of the game at statewide level.

“I just want to get back into coaching again, I love it and Katie Streader’s persuasiveness played a big part in getting me back to PINT,’’ Nolan said.

“The club seemed to be a good fit for me after I got a few kicks with them in their Top end Football Association days where I met a lot of good people.

“I coached Katie when the Thunder women played in the VFL, so there is a connection there and one I hope makes the club even more competitive on the footy field after their first finals appearance last season.’’

Nolan wants to take his coaching past the on-field action and on to a more in-depth look at the game and what is required to succeed.

“I’ll be trying to create the best football program I can and obviously video analysis is a big part of that,’’ he said.

“I took the PINT girls for training a few times last season and liked what I saw, there is certainly a desire for success there.’’

Club president Tim Hocking said the entire club was working towards a greater professionalism on and off the ground.

“Rick will be huge for us from that perspective,’’ Hocking said. “We’ve built a very good relationship with him over the years, including a lot of time on the phone discussing football.

“He’s looking at developing the club into the future and while we don’t have that in writing, we want him around for as long as we can to make that happen.’’
