The Bohle’s TAFE facilities have been given a timely upgrade in tune with the state government’s vision for North Queensland, with the addition of a new renewable energy skills facility.
Premier Steven Miles said the new facilities have ‘cemented’ Queensland’s future as a renewable superpower.
“That means we need to train the next generation of energy workers in facilities that are fit for the industries of the future,” he said.
“North Queensland is the gateway to more than half a trillion dollars in untapped critical minerals and renewable energy opportunities, so it’s only right that these facilities are
here in Townsville.”
Over the next two years, over 2000 Queensland students from 30 high schools, including 5 in Townsville, will participate in the Renewable Energy Gateway to Industry Schools Program.
Minister for Resources Scott Stewart said North Queensland’s energy transformation means more opportunities for locals to ‘get good jobs’.
“This new publicly owned facility means more locals can take advantage of Free TAFE to get into a good career, including through the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, which is among Townsville’s most popular courses,” he said.
The Bohle campus upgrade supports the government’s $30 million Queensland Clean Energy Workforce Roadmap and is part of the $100 million Equipping TAFE for our Future program, aimed at supporting skills development in manufacturing, trades and renewable energy.
In Townsville, for the Community Cabinet program, the Premier and ministers will hear from local stakeholders and more than 300 residents who have registered to attend.
Premier Steven Miles said he has a vision for Townsville that will deliver a ‘pipeline of jobs, investments and generational opportunity for the region’.
“Our plan for a better Queensland hinges on the success of the North and North West Minerals province, renewable energy zone investment opportunities, a skilled workforce and the gateway to the North- the Townsville Port,” he said.
