THE NT’s public service union has revealed how many ministerial staffers have left their positions on Territory Parliament’s 5th floor

Gunner hints at indefinite public service travel ban

AT least 10 ministerial staffers have left their positions on Territory Parliament’s fifth floor as part of a post-election staffing shake-up, according to NT’s public service union.

Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) NT regional secretary Kay Densley says she knew of at least 10 fifth floor staffers who had recently left. “I think there could be more,” she said.

Many ministerial staffers have reached the end of their contracts and are in the process of reapplying for the positions. A spokeswoman from the Chief Minister’s office said she was unable to confirm how many staffers didn’t make the cut because recruitment was still under way.

The Chief Minister’s brother-in-law Ryan Neve will be departing as his Deputy Chief of Staff as a part of the post-election shake-up.

It comes after Michael Gunner announced a major restructure of NT government departments, shrinking down 15 departments to 11, a move that will save taxpayers nearly $5m.

Mr Gunner said while jobs would be lost as part of the restructure no one would be sacked.

“This is about making government work faster, smarter and harder for Territorians,” he said.
