Over the past year the financial and social interests of Northern Territory politicians have caused no small share of scandal.
Chief Minister Natasha Fyles was toppled when it came to light she had failed to disclose her shareholding in a mine she made a decision about while health minister.
A similar scandal engulfed the more unshakeable Deputy Chief Minister Chansey Paech, who invested in alcohol wholesaler Metcash while strongly advocating for town camp grog bans to be lifted.
Independent MLA Kezia Purick drew criticism when she took a Big Tobacco funded junket to South Korea in October, with dubious benefit to her Goyder electorate.
This week Steve Edgington was forced to resign as Shadow Domestic Violence Minister after his business relationship with a known perpetrator was exposed.
Late on Thursday an updated register of interests was tabled to parliament, revealing Northern Territory politicians’ investments and divestments over the past 12 months.
It unsurprisingly shows shrinking share portfolios across both sides of the political aisle – the Country Liberal Party has committed to divesting all its shares, while Labor has launched a review into conflict of interest rules for elected members.
