NORTHERN Territory public servants have overwhelmingly rejected the Territory Government’s proposed wage freeze and flagged industrial action to sink the plan.
More than 74 per cent of public servants voted ‘no’ to the proposed four-year wages freeze
Held over two ballots, the final vote was 74.11 per cent ‘no’ against 25.89 per cent ‘yes’.
Out of a total of 5994 ballots cast, 4442 voted ‘no’.
Community and Public Service Union regional secretary Kay Densley said the overwhelming message from the vote is to scrap the proposed freeze.
“Seventy four per cent ‘no’ is a very clear message to Michael Gunner that he needs to change his wages policy and deliver a fair wage rise that adds to salary,” she said.
“Public servants aren’t going to put up with this for four long years.
“We ask that the Government goes back to the bargaining table and negotiate, but we will also be talking to our members about industrial action and we’ll be asking Michael Gunner to change his wages policy.”
The Government has been contacted for comment.
