THERE is “no reason to doubt” the election result in Mulka after the initial vote count stuff ups, the head of NT’s peak corruption body has said, indicating a review into what happened would be wrapped up soon.

Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Ken Fleming QC, who last week indicated the ICAC was co-ordinating a response into the Mulka vote stuff up, said during a radio interview on Friday that “no doubt” an error transcribing the vote counts of independent Yingiya Guyula and Labor’s Lynne Walker was made.

But while the error was “terribly embarrassing” for the NT Electoral Commission, the system was human and there was no reason to doubt the results as it exists now.

“The true position is then determined when a recount is done, and everybody is there, everybody is watching,” Mr Fleming said.

“Now there may be mutterings of improper conduct, but nobody’s come forward with any proper description of suspected improper conduct, let along improper conduct.”
