MELBOURNE residents could be allowed to enter the Northern Territory without having to quarantine before Christmas, says Chief Minister Michael Gunner.
Mr Gunner said the NT was is on track to revoke its coronavirus hotspot declaration for Melbourne before Christmas.
It comes as the NT prepares to open its border to all of Victoria, with the exception of Mitchell Shire and Melbourne, on November 2.
“Obviously we’re in Melbourne’s hands here, but we remain on track for borders to lift between now an Christmas for all of Victoria and that includes Melbourne,” Mr Gunner said.
“I think all of us have family and friends who are doing it really tough in Melbourne in particular with the lockdown down there.

”You guys have done a great job. We really want you to be free and out prior to Christmas.
“If you keep on doing what your doing, you’ll crush it and will be out by Christmas.
“If there’s no more mystery cases between now and Christmas that will do the job. I think that’s the evidence we need.”
Victoria is at 100 active cases of coronavirus today and only two of those are located outside of the Melbourne area.
