THE Byron Bay local government area is no longer a COVID-19 hotspot for the purpose of travel to the NT, Health Minister Natasha Fyles has announced.

Ms Fyles told media this afternoon Chief Health Officer Hugh Heggie had made the decision to revoke the hotspot after attending the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) meeting.

“The information that he has is he believes it’s safe to remove the hotspot declaration, but individuals arriving into the Northern Territory from the 26th of March, continuing until he receives further advice, need to isolate and get tested within 72 hours to be extra cautious,” Ms Fyles said.

It comes after all other COVID-19 hot spots were revoked earlier today including Brisbane.

Ms Fyles also announced that someone on a recent repatriation flight from New Dehli had tested positive to COVID-19.
