Chief Minister Michael Gunner is expected to announce his new look cabinet as early as Monday.
There was a surprise upset in Barkly as the final tranche of votes were counted, with CLP’s Steve Edgington edging out Labor’s Sid Vashist after the last lot of postal ballots.
Full preference flows were being worked out late last night but as it stands the CLP will take eight seats in parliament, Labor 14, there will be two independents and Territory Alliance’s Robyn Lambley.
There were 81 postal votes counted in Barkly on Friday, which was enough to push Mr. Edgington across the line by seven votes.
Psephologist Dr Kevin Bonham said final postals in Barkly broke 53-24 to the CLP, even stronger than the 58-31 flow previously.
“I was surprised by the number of postals that arrived in the last few days, overturning my expectation that Labor would retain this seat,” he said.
This was not the case in Namatjira, where the late postals were weaker for the CLP with the flow dropping from 75 per cent to 61 per cent.
CLP’s Bill Yan, subject to full preference flow distribution, has won that seat by 22 votes.
ABC election analyst Antony Green said the final result in Barkly would have to be determined by the formal distribution of preferences but as all votes had already been counted three times “finding an error at this late stage seems unlikely”.
Labor’s Mark Turner looks to have made history in Blain, in what will be a massive upset for the CLP, as the ruling party grabbed the Palmerston-based seat for the first time.
Territory Alliance’s MLA Ms Lambley won Araluen, by a margin of 42 votes.
