Chief Minister Michael Gunner drops F-bomb on live radio

CHIEF Minister Michael Gunner has been forced to apologise after dropping the F-bomb during a live radio interview.

Mr Gunner was speaking on ABC Alice Springs on Thursday afternoon when he was asked why his government was taking legal action against the local town council over the location of the proposed National Aboriginal Art Gallery.

“Because I’m sick of f***ing around,” Mr Gunner responded.

“We’ve got to get on with it.”

ABC presenter Alex Barwick asked Mr Gunner not to swear because young people might be listening.

The Chief Minister reportedly later sent an apology via text message to Barwick.

Mr Gunner has noticeably been using looser language to get his point across during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charles Darwin University Rolf Gerritsen said the Chief Minister’s use of swear words like “sh*t” and “bullsh*t” had helped him come across as more of a “tough bloke” who was going to save everyone.

“There’s a implied limit with politicians swearing,” he said.

“Australians don’t like politicians to swear a lot even though we swear like sailors.”

CLP Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said the Chief Minister’s bad language was unbecoming.

“We are all role models and we all need to set a positive example,” she said.

“We understand that the pressure of Michael Gunner’s new job as Treasurer is getting to him.

“However, paying off the massive debt is going to require more than a swear jar.”
