SEVEN thousand Northern Territory businesses will now have 24/7 access to vehicle registration transactions through Motor Vehicle Registry’s new online portal in an effort to cut red tape.

Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler said the MVR for Business portal will help businesses save time and money, with no need to visit an MVR shop front or police outstation for a number of transactions that can now be completed online.

Darwin Motor Group’s dealer principal Kevin Swanson said their business was one of the first to pilot the new system.

“We’re going to have quite a bit of saving from this,” he said.

“If we have a fairly big registration day, we would find that sometimes staff we would have to leave for the MVR in the morning and come back after 2.30pm.

“Having the flexibility to now have maybe one or two compliance officers to be able to do this all online and to meet our customer needs at the same time, is fantastic.”

The new portal has been built for licensed motor vehicle dealers, trucking companies, construction sectors, taxi companies, local governments, authorised inspectors and fleet operators.
