ATTORNEY-GENERAL ­Selena Uibo has been asked to explain why the prison in Alice Springs remains without a general manager six months after the position was advertised.

Barkly MLA Steven Edgington, questioning the delay, said it had created uncertainty and inconsistency in managing a high risk environment.

Ms Uibo said filling the role was being done by the department through an “open ­recruitment process”.

She noted there could be “frustration” around time but did not indicate when she expected a decision to be made.
