NT government awards $1.3m worth of grants to address the Territory’s domestic violence crisis

THE Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge is among ten groups that will share in $1.3 million worth of government grants to help prevent domestic, family and sexual violence.

The NT government’s Safe, Respected and Free from Violence Prevention Grants offer up to $150,000 to organisations aiming to develop and implement domestic and family violence prevention and early intervention activities.

This year’s recipients include:

— The Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge’s ‘Talking Respect Workforce Development Project’, which will be delivered in Tennant Creek and the Barkly region, Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy and Darwin

— The UMNT (United Muslims of the NT) ‘Nissa’ (‘ Women’ in Arabic) project, which will include innovative and interactive workshops and a multilingual media campaign focusing on gender equality. This will be delivered in Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek

— The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) ‘Mediation Training for Elders’ in remote Communities project to be delivered in Galiwin’ku, Lajamanu, Maningrida, Ngukurr, Wadeye and Wurrumiyanga

— Yalu Marnggithinyaraw Indigenous Corporation to provide the ‘Men Protecting Children and Partners and Family with Respectful Behaviour – Dirramurruwurr dhu ga Djaga Milyalk Djamarrkuliw ga Gurrutumirriw Mala Ngayanguy Manymakdhu ga Makmakhhunamirriy Rom. Dhu ga Guyanganhawuyu’ project in Galiwin’ku, Millingimbi, Gapuwiyak and Ramingining

— Yugul Mangi Development Aboriginal Corporation to deliver the ‘Ngukurr Family Violence Prevention Videos’ project in Ngukurr and Rittarangu.
