Police find person dead after vehicle fire near Darwin Surf Lifesaving Club

Police are investigating the death of a person who was found dead inside a smouldering vehicle near a Darwin surf club.

Police are not treating the death of a person who was found dead inside a smouldering vehicle near a Darwin surf club as suspicious.

Northern Watch Commander Dan Molloy said a vehicle fire near the Darwin Surf Life Saving Club was reported at 3.56am Saturday.

Sergeant Molloy said police and fireys attended and discovered the body of a deceased person in the car once the blaze had been extinguished.

As of Saturday afternoon, NT Police were not treating the incident as a suspicious death.

Sergeant Molloy said early investigations suggested the car had not been involved in a crash and was simply idle in the carpark.

Police blocked access to the Casuarina coastal reserve on Saturday morning.

The Darwin Surf Life Saving Club was still accessible though was open to members only.

Several visitors to the popular site were turned away on Saturday morning in light of the active crime scene.
