Incredible bird’s-eye view of African wildlife
THIS unique collection of aerial photographs of African wildlife was taken over several trips that photographer Michael Poliza made across the continent in the last 10 years.
2/20Poliza moved to Cape Town, South Africa from Hamburg about 13 years ago when he started to ‘goof around’ with his camera while on trips into the bush.
3/20He challenged himself to take photos of lions and leopards with a difference, so when the opportunity arose to go airborne he jumped on it.
4/20“I can’t choreograph my photographs as much as photographers normally could,’ Poliza said. “I’m very much dependent upon what nature gives me. So I’m always on the lookout, concentrating on what might happen in any situation.
5/20“I have to wait for those graphical moments, it’s very much the patience game. What I’ve become better and better with over the years is anticipation. I’ve gained understanding of the behaviour of the individual animals.”
6/20A number of helicopter and plane rides across Africa gave Poliza the chance to capture the textures, structures and animals he was looking for.
