Police are working to notify the family of a man who was killed in a car crash on Tiger Brennan Dr.
Major Crash Investigations Unit Detective Acting Sergeant Jeshua Kelly said the pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on between Amy Johnson Ave and Bown St at 4.35am Friday.
“The investigation could take a couple of weeks,” Sergeant Kelly said.
He said at least one witness had already reported seeing the pedestrian prior to the crash, and police were working with the person to obtain a statement.
Sergeant Kelly said the driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol and was not physically injured from the crash, but “pretty shaken up”.
He said the pedestrian was believed to be standing on the road at the time of the collision.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Richard Howie said the driver attempted to give the pedestrian first aid, but the man was declared dead at the scene by St John NT.
The collision takes the Territory’s 2023 road toll to five and is the second pedestrian crash of the year.
The road toll this time last year was 25.
Sergeant Howie urged Territorians to stay aware of pedestrians and animals on the roads and to “take time getting to where people are going”.
“Drive safe and be careful over the long weekend,” he said.
It comes just days after a 40-year-old man was struck by a car in Yarrawonga.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Scott Lewis said police were alerted to a pedestrian crash on Thorngate St about 7.40pm Monday.
He said police and St John Ambulance provided the initial response to a 40-year-old man, who was then taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.
An NT Health spokeswoman at 8.30am Friday said the man remained in critical condition.
