A 77-YEAR-OLD is in a critical condition at Royal Darwin Hospital after getting stuck in the tail rotor of a helicopter Wednesday morning.

The NT News understands the man was doing maintenance on the aircraft when the injury occurred.
In a statement, the NT Police said it was “conducting inquiries” into the incident which happened at Wombungie Station about 10.15am Wednesday.
“A 77-year-old male is believed to have been struck in the head by the tail rotor of a helicopter whilst it was undergoing a maintenance procedure,” it said.
“The man is in a critical condition in Royal Darwin Hospital.”
St John Ambulance Territory Duty Manager Craig Garraway said the man was flown to Tindal airport after the incident.
“We took a call 10.15 this morning for an incident with a helicopter out at an outstation on the other side of Katherine,” he said.

“They flew the patient to Tindal in a private helicopter that met (another aircraft) at Tindal airport and that patient was flown to Darwin and an ambulance met it at Darwin airport and transported it to RDH.”
