Paramedics were attacked in two separate “distressing” incidents across the Northern Territory on Saturday night.

St John Ambulance NT Territory Response manager Craig Garraway told this masthead these attacks were becoming more frequent.

“Every other day paramedics are being assaulted,” he said.

Mr Garraway said the first attack occurred in Moulden about 11.30pm on Saturday night.

A male reportedly appeared and threatened paramedics attending an emergency call.

The male then climbed on top of the ambulance vehicle and continued to threaten the paramedics.

“Paramedics were stuck in the vehicle at the time,” Mr Garraway said.

“It’s very distressing for the crews.

“Police responded quickly and apprehended the male.”

At the same time in another part of the Territory, Mr Garraway reported another assault on paramedics.

“In Alice Springs on Saturday night, two attending paramedics were being circled and rammed by, what I believe were, stolen vehicles,” Mr Garraway said.

“We’re out there trying to help people, and this is what happens.

“Staff are frustrated with being assaulted all the time.

“It makes it harder for people to want to come to the work.

“Some staff will never come back to work.”
