Imported, gnarly and ready to buck up, the Noonamah Tavern is pulling out all the stops for its much-anticipated rodeo on Saturday.

PROPER gnarly beasts bred from some of the best — and grumpiest — US stock will be putting their best (and worst) hooves forward at the Noonamah Tavern Rodeo on Saturday.

Territory stud TDM Bucking Bulls’ owner Annalise Robinson said her family treats the animals like athletes.

“The bucking bull industry is becoming very much like the race horse industry,” she said. “More than ever rodeo contractors and breeders are putting tremendous amounts of thought and money into the bulls’ genetics.”

Ms Robinson said breeding is about producing the highest quality bulls to ensure the development of rodeo as a sport.

“These bulls are bred with rodeo in their bones. They are as competitive, if not more so, when it comes to bucking as the cowboys trying to match them,” she said.

Ms Robinson said the rodeo was a well-regarded event Australia-wide, with riders from all over the country continually making the trip up north.

“From the outstanding facilities, the national high standard of competitors and animal athletes to the outrageous high-flying freestyle motocross. It is a family friendly event like no other in the NT,” she said.

The gates will open from 5.30pm.
