Police intercept loot of booze destined for remote communities

Remote communities West Arnhem Land will remain “thirsty” this weekend after a haul of alcohol was intercepted in Jabiru Thursday night

REMOTE communities in West Arnhem Land will remain dry this weekend after a haul of alcohol was intercepted in Jabiru on Thursday night.

About 6.45pm on Thursday night police seized cannabis and alcohol from a silver Mitsubishi, including 30 litres of spirits, worth $1800, believed to be en route to restricted area Gunbalanya.

The 22-year-old male driver was charged and the four passengers issued an infringement for bringing liquor into an alcohol protected area.
