WORK has been completed on a major upgrade project for the Katherine Showground.
The $1.9 million upgrade included the construction of a new amenities building, upgrades to the camping area, an extension to and airconditioning of the Turf Pavilion and a new cattle laneway and loading ramp.
The project comes out of a $6.9 million grant awarded to the Katherine Town Council at both the showgrounds and the sports grounds.
The remaining $5.04 million will contribute to the replacement of Don Dale Pavilion at the sportsgrounds with a new structure, which is scheduled for completion by December 2021.
Sport Minister Kate Worden said the upgrades are an investment in Katherine’s future.
“I am delighted to see the completion of the upgrades as this major community facility is much loved and well-used and will be a focal point for generations to come,” she said.
The Katherine Show & Rodeo kicks off in July.
