When Jessica Mauboy took a punt to hop on a plane from Darwin to fly to Alice Springs to audition for Australian Idol she was reaching for the stars to fulfil a dream to be a professional singer.
That was back in 2006 and she went on to be the season four runner-up, winning the hearts of Australia runner-up and subsequently signing a recording contract with Sony Music and becoming a hit maker.
Now our Jess is about to give back to the platform that made her an international star and help others who are chasing the same dream she did 14 years ago.
Jess is one of the new coaches on next year’s season of the revamped reality singing show The Voice.
She will coach singing hopefuls alongside other superstars Keith Urban, Rita Ora, and Guy Sebastian, who also got his start on Australian Idol.
“I know first-hand exactly how life-changing a show like this can be,” Jess reflected. “I’m honoured to be part of such an experienced team of coaches and I’m looking forward to some amazing chair-turning moments.
“I’m so proud of the talent that exists in this country.”
For Urban The Voice is a home coming. He was a judge on the first season back in 2011.
“The stars have finally aligned again,” Urban said. “Ten years after spinning in the first season, and just before getting back on stage around the world, I’ve been invited back alongside a very cool and musically diverse panel.”
Anywhere singer Ora has been a coach on The Voice in the UK, as well as the British version of The X Factor.
