Pauline Hanson is exactly what Australia needs.

That is the view from many Aussies after the controversial politician’s latest stunt, which led Courier-Mail columnist Des Houghton to highlight the main concerns.

“The gloriously mischievous Pauline Hanson raised an uncomfortable truth about assimilation this week when she wore a burka into the Senate chamber,” he wrote.

“Are we choosing migrants who will willingly integrate and assimilate? Will they honour their oath of allegiance to obey and uphold Australian laws?

“ … I suspect the problem of assimilation was at the heart of Hanson’s burka protest.

“As usual, however, the pros and cons of migration were lost in the media circus that followed with one moralising moron after another condemning her as a racist.”

The issue was drilled into.

“In the insufferably woke battleground of ideas we now find ourselves in, joining words like immigration and assimilation in the same sentence is like juggling hand grenades,” Houghton wrote.

“ … It says a lot about our attitude to free speech when an elected member is censored inside Parliament.”

Readers had their say on Pauline, with many blaming Labor for forcing her to make the stunt.

Others, though, backed Ms Hanson for being a great Aussie, while some said there are wider issues.

In an online poll more than 90 per cent of readers voted that Pauline Hanson is good for the country.

WHAT YOU SAID

Labor’s a joke

Bob 48

Once again, if it’s a debate Labor doesn’t want to have, they shut it down. Democracy? I think not.

Mark

Labor has let the immigration genie out of the bottle and there’s no turning back now.

Bystander

Politicians know that the only way to bring attention to an issue is to use some type of stunt. Alboneesee with his Medicare card, and his dishonest claims about $275 off our electricity are examples. The media is fickle but are attracted to shiny things.

Judith

We must be able to debate banning burqa’s. But cannot wear Aussie flag. Disgraceful.

Go Pauline!

Paul

Pauline is 100% Australian, straight forward, honest, fairdinkum and a no hold barred Politician of courage and determination in my view she makes so many of these “Mealy Mouthed” others in the Senate look like children-ONYA Pauline

Edward

Pauline’s great, wake up Australia …

wayne

She’s says what everyone is not game to say, as they dance around, trying to pick up the re “progressive” vote.

Maz

A politician who says what we are all thinking. I have been a Tory voter for many years, but with rubbish we have in Parliament on both sides of the house in Federal politics I think we need to change our vote to someone who is prepared to stand up for us.

We need change

Ronald

We drastically need someone in power to shake things up and focus on looking after our country not the rest of the world, like other countries do. We need help badly, this country has gone down the gurgler.

Makros

Yes Pauline is a mischievous imp. Sometimes she is crazy other time she hit the mark. The whole fiasco in Parliament was ridiculous. There was no racism just a defence of women and what is wrong with that? She probably knew what would happen but the had the gumption to do it. Sadly with a totally inept Government and divided opposition many people are turning to her. Be nice to her, she may well hold the balance of power.

Bev

Other countries seem to be able to debate the pro’s and cons of issues and come to a conclusion. Here there is no debate no positions put forward debate is shutdown immediately by calls of sexism, mysogony, racism, islamaphobia, denier etc., etc.

Owl

I think we’re fortunate to have politicians who are willing to raise topics that make people uncomfortable. A lot of people dismissed Pauline Hanson’s burka moment in Parliament as a stunt, and plenty labelled her “racist,” but I feel like that reaction ends the conversation before it even starts.
