Parade for Olympians a right move for Territory

TERRITORIANS could be throwing a party for our Olympic heroes when they return from Tokyo, and it’s going to be the perfect time to once again prove to the rest of the country that Darwin is the place to be.

While the east coast battles a Covid-19 outbreak the Territory, at this point in time remains safe, so it makes sense that we throw a party where our Aussie stars can be properly celebrated.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner has indicated a ticker-tape parade is on the cards for the 200 Olympic stars expected to quarantine in Darwin when they return from the Games.

The idea has been backed by Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis.

This is a great idea and a chance for Darwin to really pull out all the stops to make these sports stars’ return home one to remember.

No doubt it will boost our economy as returning athletes stay, play and unwind in the NT after months of training in the lead up to the Games and then sadly competing to empty stadiums.

A parade to welcome our athletes back to Australia will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for Darwin and something that we should all back and support.

So when the parade does happen make sure you get out there and give our sporting representatives the cheers and support they lacked at the Games.

They deserve a hero’s welcome.
