SINCE The Gunner Government began their campaign prior to the 2016 election, being open and transparent has been at the forefront of their messaging.
Yet there have been numerous instances where this mantra has gone by the wayside when the heat has been on.
The withdrawal of a tender, put out to investigate options to manage NT speed limits and reduce the road toll, may fail the transparency test.
Mistakes do happen, as Planning Minister Eva Lawler says.
But the removal of the tender after questions that were asked by the NT News seems to suggest otherwise.
If the tender was released without her knowledge and was a departmental error then just own up to it.
No one will deny that the road toll and trying to reduce it through new policy is a bad idea.
Given the number of deaths on Territory roads last year, most of the community would applaud some fresh thinking on how to tackle the issue.
But the individualised jargon all governments develop over the course of their term is hitting fever pitch.
After listening to Natasha Fyles dodge questions over the Arafura Games budget and if athletes will be flown here by an anonymous sponsor, some straight talking would be appreciated.
All the public wants from their politicians is honesty and to own their decisions.
The explanations and spin get tiring and voters just stop listening.
