The modern design which takes into account the tropical Top End weather to keep spectators cool will be a jewel in the crown of Darwin.

Now that AFLNT chairman Sean Bowden’s vision has been illustrated, the full impact of what it would mean for the city can be comprehended.

Imagine the anticipated sell out crowd of nearly 13,000 people the Gold Coast Suns and Hawthorn match will attract all eating and drinking in the city.

Venues would be packed.

It would provide a massive night for the hospitality industry to bank on at least twice a year to begin with.

TIO Stadium at Marrara is a good venue but cannot deliver the wider economic impact that a city stadium could.

A truly world class venue would put Darwin on the sporting and entertainment map and our proximity to Asia gives the Top End a chance to attract events that maybe the east coast capitals couldn’t get.

Now the vision has been formed it comes down to attracting the financial backing to get the project going.

Where the funding will come from is yet to be seen but the fact so many reputable organisations are participating in the planning on a voluntary basis shows how much the Darwin community believes it can happen.
