Let’s have fun at this weekend’s big events but remember to stay Covid-safe

Almost 60,000 people are expected to get out and about to some major cultural events happening in the Territory this weekend – but let’s all remember to stay Covid-safe while we do.

• Full campgrounds expected for bumper long weekend

THE dry season has well and truly begun, with almost 60,000 people across the Territory expected to get out and about to make the most of our marvellous weather this weekend alone.

Few would’ve predicted our incredible success in keeping the pandemic under control, but it has allowed us to enjoy freedoms few elsewhere can boast about.

GleNTi and Barunga Festival are the major cultural events expected to each draw thousands.

Meanwhile, our extraordinary parks such as Litchfield and Kakadu are likely to be buzzing.

Walking through the city this week, the streets and shops have been filled with interstate visitors, all of them hopefully opening their wallets and spending up for their Top End getaway.

That means income for small businesses and struggling tourism operators, who last year had their crucial dry season hampered by the pandemic.

This year’s Dry never could’ve happened if we’d allowed the pandemic to burn out of control through the NT.

So this weekend, while we’re out having a great weekend, let’s all remember to keep our distance just a little bit.

The recent outbreak in Victoria, which swelled to almost 100 cases of Covid-19, is a timely reminder we still are living in a pandemic.

While we all hope there isn’t Covid-19 out there in the community, we can’t take anything for granted.
