Time for new government to step up
Time to repair the relationship with management and traditional owners
As has been the way for some time now, Darwin is somewhat of a sausage fest. There are currently 109.9 men for each 100 women in the city, potentially making it more difficult for those who are interested in women to meet a potential partner and hang around to have a family in the Territory.
According to Charles Darwin University Northern Institute Professor Andrew Taylor, the reason for this gender imbalance is that the main industries that bring people to the NT – like the military and mining – are male dominated.
So, perhaps the NT Government needs to rethink their population growth strategy, to ensure that it’s not just blokes that are attracted to the NT, but everyone.
The NT is a fantastic place for women. In the Territory, what some might consider to be stereotypical “blokey” activities are for everyone. Whether it’s camping, fishing, 4WDing or even hunting, the Territory is a place where women can try things they’ve never done before and really step out of their comfort zones.
