A KANGAROO and a pig have struck up an intense romantic relationship in the tiny wayside town of Aileron.
The animals’ owner Greg Dick said tourists were often taken aback at the sight of the kangaroo — named “F**k It” — mounting Apples the pig by the side of the road.
But he says he’s powerless to intervene in the outback love affair.
“It’s quite an unusual thing,” he said.
“I tried to take the pig away the other day and the kangaroo nearly tore the fence down.”
Mr Dick introduced Apples a year ago and said it was “love at first sight”.
“It just happened on the first day,” he said.
But despite being a gentle lover, he said F**k It was sometimes unfaithful.
“He’ll try to (get on to) anything, it’s a wonder he hasn’t had a go at the geese,” he said.
Visitor Ryan Frazer was one of many tourists shocked by the sight of a kangaroo and a pig expressing their animal instincts with each other.
On a recent work trip, he and two colleagues stopped in at Aileron, not knowing what there was to see.
“We were a bit stunned, I was with my boss and it was a bit awkward,” he said.
“They were nudging each other then he mounted her.
“Then when the pig mounted the kangaroo ... I’ve never seen anything like it.”
He said the presence of two geese in the paddock “just having a bit of a look” made the surreal situation even stranger.
“(One of my colleagues) was visiting from North America, it was definitely a memory he’ll take with him, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not.”
Mr Frazer said Aileron locals commented to him that the once aggressive kangaroo became calmer when the pig came into his life. Mr Dick said F**k It showed no signs of leaving town now that he had a lover.
“If I leave the gate open, he just comes and sleeps on my veranda,” he said.
Mr Dick said he has couldn’t bring himself to separate F**k It and Apples.
“They’re in love,” he said.
He said the two animals had become an unlikely tourist attraction.
“I think I might take some photos and get some postcards made,” he said.
