NTPFES announces new assistant commissioners and commanders
NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services has announced promotions for several long-serving police officers, including the appointment of two new assistant commissioners.

LONG-TERM Territory police officers Bruce Porter APM and Travis Wurst have both been promoted to assistant commissioners for the NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services (NTPFES).
Mr Porter was appointed to Assistant Commissioner People and Cultural Reform and Mr Wurst to Assistant Commissioner Greater Darwin, Road Safety and Support.
Mr Porter joined the NT police force on July 3, 1989. During his 32 years of service, he has served in the Territory Response Group at the Alice Springs Police Station, Tennant Creek and Barkly Region, as well as in the role of Territory Duty Superintendent, Professional Standards Command and at the Police College.
Mr Wurst joined the NT police force on July 3, 1995. During his 26 years of service, Mr Wurst has served in a number of remote stations within the Territory, crime positions in both Alice Springs and Darwin, Darwin and Road Policing Command and in the Office of the Commissioner.
Mr Wurst is currently in the role of Covid-19 NT Response Coordinator.
Hege Burns and Sachin Sharma have also been appointed to commander roles.
Commander Burns is currently Acting Commander, Incident Controller, Territory Emergency Operations Centre. She has been a superintendent since 2017 including Territory Duty Superintendent.
Commander Burns’ experience includes frontline policing in urban and remote locations, intelligence and Emergency Management.
Commander Sharma is currently Acting Commander, Incident Controller, Territory Emergency Operations Centre. He has been a Superintendent since 2013 and acted in the role of Commander on several occasions. Commander Sharma’s experience includes Emergency Management, frontline operations and criminal investigations.
