A sand-bogged ute has left a towing team stumped after they stumbled across the ‘unusual sight’ en route to another job. See all the photos.

NT Towing 4x4 Recovery stumbled across an abandoned ute buried deep in the sand on their way to a job in Maningrida.

A bogged car or flat tyre is bothersome, but a ute flooded with sand and silt after an apparent nosedive into a dried-up riverbed is disastrous.

An NT Towing 4x4 Recovery spokeswoman said the ute – which was still registered – was discovered by the team while they were on their way to a job in Maningrida.

The spokeswoman said the circumstances surrounding the ute’s sandy predicament were a mystery.

She said the team often kept a look out for stolen cars, and stopped to investigate the “unusual sight”.

Photos of the bizarre incident show sand throughout the ute’s cabin, piled all the way to the headrests.

The front of the ute and all four wheels are buried beneath the sand, and muck-filled eski sits in the vehicle’s tray.

One Facebook user suggested the vehicle was simply “waiting for (a) mate”.

It is understood the ute – which appears to be a Great Wall – has not been reported stolen.
