Losing weight, “staying off the piss”, and fitness were the top priorities for Territorians enjoying their final hours in 2023.

Mitchell Street revellers gave the NT News team an insight into their New Year’s resolutions and as the night unfolded, the honesty grew.

Joel McCarthy said he wanted to prioritise his liver and wallet.

“Hopefully (in 2024) I stay off the piss and am successful in making a lot of money,” he said.

Mr McCarthy said he was keen to improve his health.

“I would like to actually get fit by improving my diet and going to the gym – I don’t think I’ll miss all the parties and piss to be honest,” he said.

“So yeah, get healthy, save money and stop being a gronk.”

Best mates Kaydan and Keenan agreed their top resolution was to “start being adults”.

“(I want) to get massive, you know, and, honestly, get a missus that’s good for (me) – proper,” Kayden said.

Keenan added two more objectives.

“I want to stop going to town and start getting better at the gym, focus on work (and) all that stuff.”
