A “large quantity” of alcohol and drugs were seized in two separate interceptions in West Daly region this week, NT Police say.

NT Police said the two interceptions targeted a total of four vehicles, with police alleging some occupants were involved in grog running and drug distribution.

The first seizure was on December 15, with Daly River police discovering 63 litres of grog and over 260 grams of marijuana in a vehicle.

Police allege the two men in the vehicle, aged 21 and 39, were travelling to Wadeye to distribute the cargo.

They will appear at Wadeye Local Court on January 14, 2025.

On December 16, Wadeye police intercepted three vehicles travelling in a convoy along Port Keats Rd in a separate incident.

Police said the first vehicle contained 30 bottles of liquor, which they allege was intended for distribution in the community.

The other two vehicles were searched, with police saying they found two more bottles of liquor and several pre-mixed drinks.

Police also said all occupants of the three vehicles returned a positive alcohol breath test.

Two of the occupants, men aged 33 and 35, were issued with a notice to appear at court, with a Toyota HiLux seized the following day.

Acting Superintendent Erica Gibson said that the seized contraband could have caused harm to the community.

“The supply of alcohol and illicit substances into our communities has devastating impacts on the lives of those who live there,” Ms Gibson said.

“Police will continue to target those who wish to gain benefit from distribution alcohol or illicit substances in our remote communities.”
