A man at the centre of a dramatic early morning arrest in the well-heeled Darwin suburb of Cullen Bay on Thursday has faced court for the first time.

Roy Francis Daye, 53, appeared in the dock before Local Court judge John Neill on Friday, with his lawyer, Jon Tippett KC indicating he would seek bail at his next appearance next week.

Daye is facing a string of charges including unlawfully causing serious harm, assault, drug possession and firearms offences.

It comes after Drug and Organised Crime detectives and Territory Response Group members swarmed on the Cullen Bay Crescent property about 8am on Thursday.

Daye is understood to have been known to police prior to an alleged incident earlier this month that led to his arrest and was believed to be temporarily staying at the Cullen Bay home.

The owners of the property were not targeted in the arrest and there are no allegations of wrongdoing on their part.

Photos from around the area at the time of the arrest show police trying to coax the 53-year-old from the home.

“This is the police,” a voice can be heard saying over a loudspeaker.

“Leave any weapons in the house.

“Take off your shirt.

“Come to the front door with nothing in your hands.

“Walk out the door with your hands up.

“Walk slowly down the driveway toward the police vehicle and take further direction.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Newell said the alleged serious harm offences occurred in early January.

Daye was remanded in custody and will return to the Darwin Local Court next Friday.
