NT crime news: Five arrested on Stuart Hwy after alleged Nightcliff motor vehicle theft

August 2: Three children and two adults have been arrested after they allegedly stole a vehicle in the Top End.
Northern Watch Commander Theo Karamanidis said police deployed tyre deflation devices on the Stuart Hwy to apprehend the vehicle about 3am Friday.
He said the vehicle had been travelling south on the major thoroughfare.
Sergeant Karamanidis said five people got out of the car who were arrested at the scene.
He said police expected to charge the group later on Friday.
Sergeant Karamanidis said he understood the vehicle had been stolen from Nightcliff.
Police investigate Top End car fire
August 1: A group of alleged offenders are on the run after they crashed a stolen car and torched another in Palmerston.
Northern Watch Commander Theo Karamanidis said the group allegedly drove a stolen motor vehicle into the back of another car in the Woodroffe about 8.30pm Wednesday.
Sergeant Karamanidis alleged the group then got out of their vehicle and “lit up” the car they had crashed into.
A police spokesman alleged the vehicle being driven was a red Toyota LandCruiser, and the torched car was a red Ford Fiesta.
The spokesman said firefighters extinguished the flames and no injuries were reported.
He said the alleged offenders fled the scene and were still outstanding.
The spokesman said the LandCruiser had been seized for forensic analysis and a crime scene was declared.
