A senior detective has reminded parents to “talk with your children” after authorities arrested a NT man in his 50’s alleged to have committed child sex offences in a remote community.
On Thursday morning, NT Police announced Child Abuse Taskforce detectives had arrested and charged a man in his 50’s following a thorough investigation in a remote West Arnhem community.
The man has been charged with three counts of engaging in conduct to procure a child under 14 years of age, exposing an indecent act to a child and failing to comply with reporting conditions.
The alleged offender has been remanded in custody and will appear at Darwin Local Court on Friday.
Detective senior sergeant Toby Wilson said authorities were made aware of the incident by children who reported the alleged offending.
“We commend the brave actions of the children involved who approached a responsible adult and sought safety, reporting what had occurred,” he said.
“This is a timely reminder to talk with your children about always speaking to adults when they don’t feel safe.”
