NT News: Thorny devil wins best wildlife picture

Crocs, snakes, and birds were in the mix, but a thorny little resident reptile has come out on top. See more for the top finishers.

A thorny devil has won the hearts of Territorians, with a cracking photo of reptile voted winner of the NT News’ best wildlife picture.

Taken by Tamika Wood, the photo shows a close up of the tiny dragon in incredible detail.

Ms Wood said she stumbled across the thorny devil while driving through the Red Centre.

“I came across this Thorny Devil looking for some ants on the road on a drive to our community school in Bonya,” she said.

“It captures the beautiful colours that the Thorny and the Red Centre desert (has) to offer.”

In second place, Edouard Laroche-Joubert’s majestic Jabiru won the adoration of many voters.

“Capturing a Jabiru in flight during sunrise is a rare and unique opportunity.”

Tied at third was Anita Price who caught a stunning shot of a crocodile under a Top End sunset.

"Humans and crocodiles alike stop in their tracks in awe of Darwin sunsets."

The final member of the podium belonged to another reptile, captured by Justine Reynold, who caught a frilled neck lizard crossing the road.

“This photo was taken because of the vibrant colours and striking pose of the frill necked lizard.”
