Aboriginal entrepreneurs will receive formal coaching and business advice as part of a renewed effort to promote Indigenous tourism.
In an Australian-first, Tourism NT and Indigenous Business Australia have joined forces to deliver the NT Aboriginal Tourism Accelerator program, aimed at empowering First Nations’ businesses and organisations.
Yibekka Kakadu Tours founder James Morgan praised the partnership.
“This program is an excellent partnership that will help build strong Aboriginal tourism businesses and promote them on a national and international level,” he said.
A Bininj man, Mr Morgan is a member of the Aboriginal Tourism Committee and said he was “proud” to have played a part in the initiative.
“From a participant perspective, the program offers a chance to connect with industry experts to gain skills and knowledge, enabling participants to create a more positive future for their family and communities,” he said.
“When done correctly, these programs are the finest example of self-determination and empowerment.
“I am extremely proud to be a part of bringing this initiative to the Territory – the benefits of this program are immeasurable and will be seen long after the program has ended.”
Community and Customer Experience Director of IBA Stella de Cos said the initiative would share Indigenous culture with the globe.
“Creating new opportunities for our Aboriginal businesses to share culture and country with the rest of the world is ultimately a success for everyone involved,” she said.
“Our people are the original and ongoing custodians of this land, and the deep understanding and knowledge they have is what makes these opportunities so important.”
