Northern Territory Administrator Vicki O’Halloran has been recognised for her distinguished service to the people of the Northern Territory and to the disability sector.
Today, she will receive the Officer of the Order of Australia.
She said she was privileged in her role as Administrator to be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
“With the greatest respect for the tradition and history of the position, while I am in office it is my ongoing aim to ensure Government House recognises and welcomes all Territorians, particularly those who have not traditionally had an opportunity to engage with their Administrator,” she said.
“I am driven by the awareness that in investing time and energy we can make a tangible difference to the quality of people’s lives.
“Each opportunity for engagement I have is considered carefully with the aim of delivering it in the best and most effective way possible.”

She said people were the beating heart of the Territory, and effort should be taken to get things right.
“After all, there are no second chances when we are working with real lives,” she said.
Ms O’Halloran acknowledged that her family was the backbone of her ability to be able to what she did.
“Of course none of my work would be possible without my unfailingly supportive husband, Craig, daughter, Coco, my many wonderful mentors and the team at Government House,” she said.
“I particularly think of the love and influence of my parents — proud Territorians — who I wish were here today. They continue to inspire me to be the best I can be.
“I truly value this wonderful recognition and am proud of this honour.
“I very much look forward to continuing to working with, and for, all Territorians.”
