A man has fallen 25 metres off a cliff on the Central Coast, with paramedics attributing his miraculous survival to the fact he hit several ledges on the way down.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the man, in his 20s, had been on a rock shelf in Terrigal when he fell off just after 5pm on Tuesday.

Paramedics treated the man for serious leg injuries, while also wounds to his face and arms.

The spokesman said the man appeared to have “tumbled” down the cliff, softening his landing, adding that he would probably not have survived if he had fallen more than 10 metres uninterrupted.

The Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter airlifted the man to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.
