Premier Chris Minns is being urged by our readers to stop listening to Lord Mayor Clover Moore and her anti-Moore Park golf course rhetoric.
A flood of responses followed yesterday’s front page story in The Daily Telegraph suggesting the NSW government faces $200 million in costs to slash the course to just nine holes and create additional parkland.
One of Australia’s leading real estate agents, Alexander Phillips, has also predicted surrounding apartment values could plummet by up to 20 per cent if plans for the hatchet job goes ahead.
Ms Moore has been a long-time proponent of reducing the golf club’s footprint.
“Do not cave in to Clover Moore, her vision is absolutely not what we want or need,” reader Karen posted online.
“Minns shouldn’t be listening to Clover Moore,” agreed Chris while Peter added: “Unfortunately Minns is at the beck and call of Clover and will do whatever she wants.”
Another reader Warren urged the Premier to back down now.
“Come on Mr Minns,” he wrote. “Just admit you’ve made a mistake and quietly move on. Not even your own MPs want it carved up.”
Arnold House, 77, a resident of the Raleigh Park complex on the southern border of the course, said the government should also consider the impact on tourism if the Moore Park layout is decimated.
“I was a supplier to the golf club and remember being told how popular the course was with overseas visitors because it was affordable and easily accessible from the city,” he said.
