Revealed: companies that got the most under JobKeeper

The largest JobKeeper sum received by a company was $856 million; the biggest amount paid back has been $31m, new data reveals.

The share market-listed companies that received the most under JobKeeper can be revealed for the first time, as can those that have made the largest repayments.

The single-largest welfare program in the nation’s history delivered more than $2.2 billion to just 10 companies, according to The Daily Telegraph’s analysis of data published by the corporate regulator.

Qantas was the no.1 recipient, with $856 million, followed by Crown Resorts with $291m. Flight Centre ($248m), The Star Entertainment Group ($157m) and Myer ($144m) received the next largest sums.

The biggest amount repaid has been $31m, by Australian Clinical Labs; Cochlear is next, at $23m.

Repayments have been made by fewer than 50 of the more than 560 companies covered by the data released by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission on Tuesday.

Federal Labor spokesman Andrew Leigh said that while “JobKeeper saved jobs, but we didn’t need to give $20 billion to firms with rising revenues.

“JobKeeper went to French and Italian billionaires, to executive bonuses, and to hedge funds and investment banks,” Mr Leigh said.

“This wasn’t Liberal Party money, it was taxpayer money, and Labor believes that JobKeeper receipts by firms with turnover above $10 million should be public.”
