A ute linked to a botched daylight hit on an underworld teen in Sydney’s west is the “missing link” detectives are looking for as investigations into the incident continue.

Police have released new CCTV footage as part of a fresh appeal for public assistance as a major manhunt intensifies for the two gunmen.

The public shooting took place at about 3pm, October 23, 2024, where two men unleashed a hail of bullets on 19-year-old Khoder Hamdan, firing up to 10 shots at him outside an Auburn home.

Soon after the shooting on Chisholm Rd, emergency services were called to a car fire 14km away on Haughton St in Carramar where a 2016 grey Lexus coupe — used in the getaway — was completely destroyed.

The attack on Hamdan was the third time he had survived being shot in an 18-month period – after an attack at Auburn in May 2023 and Wetherill Park in September 2023.

Police renew appeal over Auburn shooting and arson incident

Newly released CCTV shows two men dressed in black running from Haughton St toward Heiden Park and Prospect Creek where they are later seen attempting to escape in a grey Mazda CX-3 SUV on Mitchell St, Carramar.

Police have since identified a third vehicle, a black Ford Ranger Raptor PX3 with distinctive red striping on its side, believed to be involved in the hit.

The black ute was seen travelling with the stolen grey Lexus.

Auburn Police Area Command Supt Rob Toynton said identifying the owner of the black Ford Ranger Raptor PX3 was the “missing link” that could solve the investigation.

Police are also on the hunt for the two men seen fleeing on foot from the scene towards Symon St, Fairfield.

Investigators believe the men also changed their clothing on Symons Street, with one last seen wearing a grey hooded jumper and grey shorts.

Khoder Hamdan survived a public place shooting at Auburn on May 30 and Wetherill Park on August 25 in his ute.

One of the men is believed to have suffered significant burns to his leg during the incident.

CCTV shows the man hopping in agony as flames ran up his leg while he torched the getaway car shortly after the shooting.

This fiery mistake threw their initial getaway plans out the window and resulted in detectives recovering potentially crucial evidence from the two balaclava-clad men.

Supt Toynton said several medical facilities and local hospitals were canvased last year in the hopes that the man had sought treatment for his burns.

“We haven’t been able to establish where that person sought treatment at this stage, but that person would’ve sought treatment at some location,” Supt Toynton said.

He said it was critical anyone with information regarding the shooting on October 23 last year, the identity of the two men, or the owner of the black Ford Ranger Raptor PX3 to contact police.

“We are seeking your assistance now. You can contact police directly, or if you feel uncomfortable doing that please contact through Crime Stoppers and you can provide that information anonymously,” he said.

“One of the things police do, we do not give up on investigations. We are actively involved and we will not rest until we put these offenders before the courts.”

Gunmen accidentally light themselves on fire

While Hamdan was the intended target of the gunmen, multiple homes and his vehicle were hit by bullets.

The Daily Telegraph earlier revealed Hamdan — an associate of the Hamzy crime clan — had been encouraged by NSW Police to leave Sydney after they received intelligence of an imminent threat to his life.
