NEW RULES FOR NSW PREMIER CRICKET AS COVID 19 SOARS IN SYDNEY

Officials are committed to delivering a full season of Sydney cricket but new protocols and recommendations have come into play from January 4 as Covid numbers explode and NSW Premier Cricket prepares for its return this weekend.

A long list of changes will be circulated to clubs in the competitions as Covid numbers rise daily across Sydney and regional areas.

Numerous sports, including cricket, basketball and football, have been affected in recent weeks with schedule changes, match cancellations and players and staff falling ill.

Hugging and high-fiving is also out.
Hugging and high-fiving is also out.

As a result, from this weekend victory songs must now be sung outside, hanging out with a rival team is a no and shaking hands at the end of a match is off the cards as it is recommended players do to socialise after games.

Hugging or high-fiving during wicket celebrations is also out as officials work to keep NSW Premier Cricket on track for a full season of play.

Other protocols that will be introduced include;

# No more that two people in change rooms at any one time and players should only enter to pad up or change clothing.

# Players and officials must sit outside while watching the game.

#All team meetings, pre and post play to be conducted outdoors.

#Keep a safe distance during wicket celebrations - no hugging or high-fives etc.

New protocols will be in force for this weekend

# No shaking hands at the conclusion of a match.

#Victory songs to be held outdoors.

#Post-match meeting between the captains and umpires to be conducted outdoors.

#Scorers to score outdoors where possible and keep a safe distance from one another. If

this cannot be done, then scorers must wear a mask indoors.

These protocols are in addition to the Covid-19 Supplement Playing Conditions already in force.

Heading into this weekend, officials said there is no plan to amend the schedule but “some tweaking may be made should the spread of infections force us to make some changes’’.

Heading into round eight of the battle for the Belvidere Cup, Northern District leads from Mosman, Sydney, St George, Randwick Petersham and UNSW
