Cops have established a strikeforce to investigate a 40-person brawl at the iconic Manly Wharf after a teen was allegedly set upon by a large gang of youths.
NSW Police established Strike Force Crookhaven on Friday afternoon, after officers were called to the popular northern beaches spot at 9pm on Tuesday, following reports of a brawl.
Police arrived to scenes of up to 40 people, mostly teens, fighting along Manly esplanade.
Footage released in the aftermath shows officer leading several teens away from The Esplanade, as others swarmed around them, before a knife was recovered at the scene.
A witness described as a “local hero”, Simon, said the boy who was being attacked by the entire group.
“He was literally screaming for his life,” Simon said.
The witness said that when he and another good samaritan, Renee, attempted to help step in, they were subject to abuse from the crowd.
“(I was) bottled and Renee was spat on,” he said.
The creation of the strikeforce the investigate the incident comes after video showed police escorting teens out of the area.
Officers are seeking to identify two witnesses seen in CCTV footage during the brawl.
Pictures have been released of a caucasian man in his 60s with grey hair, while the other, also of caucasian appearance, believed to be aged in his 40s with short dark hair.
No arrests were made at the time of the brawl.
