The top performing primary and secondary schools in Bowral and Goulburn in this year’s NAPLAN have been revealed.

The Bowral–Goulburn region has punched above its weight in the latest primary school rankings, with standout performances from Frensham Junior School in Mittagong, Bowral’s Aurora Southern Highlands Steiner School and St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary.

The top performing school is the prestigious Frensham School, its campus in Mittagong.

The school is situated on a large property of approximately 440 acres in the Southern Highlands and is $31K or Years 7 to 10.

In fourth and fifth place they were joined by Burradoo’s Oxley College and Mittagong’s St Michael’s Catholic Primary School, rounding out a strong performance for the Southern Highlands.

For secondary schools, Oxley College secured top place, while Mittagong’s Frensham School achieved a close second.

Chevalier College, Snowy Mountains Grammar School in Jindabyne and Cooma’s St Patrick’s Parish School rounded out the region’s highest-performing schools.

The Southern Highlands shows a strong independent school presence, particularly in secondary education with only three schools — St Michael’s Catholic Primary School, St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School and St Patrick’s Parish School — non-independent.

Lucy Gregory, Head of Frensham Junior School said the school is “delighted to be recognised as one of the highest achieving primary schools in the region for NAPLAN.”

“These results show the exceptional quality of teaching and learning that takes place in our classrooms every day, supported by highly experienced teachers with a genuine commitment to each child’s growth,” Ms Gregory said.

Ms Gregory said while NAPLAN “provides only one snapshot, it affirms the consistent dedication of our staff and the vibrant learning environment in which our students thrive.”

Jack Ellice-Flint, Preschool and Year 1 Parent at Frensham shared that “the result reflects what we see at Frensham Junior School every day.

“Our son in Year 1 has thrived this year, supported by small class sizes and teachers who not only understand each child’s way of learning but, importantly, their interests so that a genuine passion for learning is encouraged,” he said.

“With our daughter starting Kindergarten next year, it is reassuring to know she’ll be part of a community that gives children room to grow and reach their personal best.”

The Daily Telegraph’s analysis of the state’s highest performing schools in this year’s NAPLAN has revealed the most improved primary and high schools, and the top performing mainstream schools that outperformed both academically selective and elite private institutions.

Every school’s performance has been analysed by averaging Year 5 and Year 9 students’ reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy results in the 2025 NAPLAN.
