A supermarket has been ramraided and set on fire in Mt Pritchard, triggering a major police response and forcing nearby residents to evacuate.

Emergency services were called to Meadows Rd shortly before 1am on Tuesday following reports a vehicle had crashed into a shopfront.

Officers arrived to find a silver utility, with no registration plates, had ploughed into the front of a supermarket.

A fire broke out shortly after, causing significant damage to the store before it was brought under control by firefighters.

Police confirmed the driver fled the scene before they arrived. No injuries were reported, but around 10 people were evacuated from neighbouring buildings as a precaution.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the cause of the incident has commenced.
