Mosman locals turn on neighbours as investigation into Alan Joyce house egging continues

Mosman residents are turning on their neighbours as the police investigation into the vandalising of the Qantas CEO’s property continues.

It has been a week since Qantas CEO Alan Joyce had his newly purchased $19 million harbourside mansion attacked with toilet paper and pelted with eggs.

The list of potential suspects was indeed a long one: disgruntled former baggage handlers who had their jobs outsourced to another company; travellers who saw their luggage go missing for weeks; perhaps someone who waited for hours listening to hold music?

So with such a long list of possible culprits, detectives from Mosman police are lucky to have a vigilante army of locals all willing to help crack the case.

NSW Police on Sunday said the investigation was ongoing.

Initially neighbours were quick to say nobody in Mosman would do such a thing.

But as the days have gone by, Mosmanites have started to turn on one another. One neighbour called Confidential to phone in the prime suspect who lives nearby.

“He has smeared cat faeces on the front door so nobody goes near it, he’s outspokenly homophobic, he is very capable of doing that sort of thing,” he said.

“I don’t have any grievance against him, I am not being vengeful or mischievous.”

The attack happened sometime between 10.50pm on Monday night and 2am on Tuesday morning. Local police said they were still on the case, collecting CCTV and still talking to locals in a bid to unroll the toilet paper mystery.

Joyce meanwhile is in the midst of a PR crisis of sorts with his airline besieged with complaints over lost luggage, delayed flights and cancellations. In 2017, a Perth man smashed a lemon meringue pie in Joyce’s face in protest against same sex marriage.

Joyce bought the waterfront home with his partner Shane Lloyd for an eye-watering $19 million earlier this year after his salary plummeted to just $2 million last year, up slightly from $1.75 million in 2020. Before the pandemic, Mr Joyce made about $10 million a year.
