Great white shark spotted metres off Sydney’s Bondi Beach

A drone pilot has caught the moment a great white shark circled metres off Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach.

Sydney artist Agnes Bruck had barely shaken off the flu when she grabbed her drone and headed to South Bondi for some fresh air.

Flying her drone over the water, she spotted a dark shape moving through a ball of salmon.

“At first I thought it was a grey nurse … but then I realised it looked like a predatory shark,” Ms Bruck said.

Without her phone, Ms Bruck ran to the Bondi lifeguard tower and hit the buzzer.

“The lifeguards checked the footage and said it looked more like a great white,” she said.

Bruck and lifeguards jumped in a buggy and raced to the water’s edge, calling swimmers out of the water as the shark swam just 50m offshore.

The juvenile great white was then spooked away by lifeguards on jet skis.
